Overview

This is a hidden Macaws’ paradise, located about 20 minutes south of the Vallarta’s Botanical Garden.

It was founded about 10 years ago due to a misfortune; There were two partners of macaws living in two different pine trees.  One of these trees dried out and the other one was ilegally cut to steal the baby macaws.   Out of the dried tree, some people from a close community organized themselves and decided to make two macaws boxes’ nest and hung them up high in the trees.  They did not know if it would be attractive for the macaws, furtunately it was!  Soon some macaws started to used them.  Little by litle these organizers made more and more boxes… Currently there are more than 30 box-nests spread out in this santury; Three of them were donated to the Botanical Garden.

This santuary is the best place close to Puerto Vallarta to appreciate this endangered species, better known as the Mexican Military Macaw (Ara Militaris Mexicanus).  If lucky, you could see them about 20 to 30 meters away and yes, binoculars are provided.   The best time to see them is in the morning, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. We know it is very early, but it does worth the effort!

***This is a Private Santuary and must be arranged in advance with owners…
